The Anaheim Union High School District Art Department has developed a course of study that is aligned with the current Visual and Performing Arts Framework for California Public Schools-Kindergarten through Grade Twelve. According to the current state framework there are four components of visual arts education that are essential elements of each art course taught in California public schools.
Effective visual arts instruction incorporates all four arts components: artistic perception, creative expression, historical and cultural context, and aesthetic valuing. An effective visual arts teacher understands that for students to create artwork, they must see and respond to works of art in ways the enable them to understand the power and nature of aesthetic experience. Students, also, need to experience the visual arts from a variety of cultures and historical periods.
The Art Department's curricular offerings meet the district requirements for high school graduation in the fine arts/world language areas. Most class offerings meet the entrance requirements for the UC and CSU systems except those followed by an asterisk*.
